Media Release: Rego reduction will benefit consumers and caravan industry

Rego reduction will benefit consumers and caravan industry

The NSW Caravan & Camping Industry Association has welcomed today’s announcement by the NSW Government which significantly reduces the cost of registering a caravan or camper trailer in NSW from 1 November this year.

“This is great news for our industry and a great outcome for the large and ever-growing caravanning community of NSW,” CCIA CEO, Lyndel Gray said of the announcement.

“Our Association has long been advocating to cut the cost of caravan and camper trailer registration fees, and we are delighted we have been listened to and action has been taken.”

“NSW has traditionally been one of the most expensive states for caravan registrations so this reduction will help bring costs more in line with other states.”

According to the announcement, the reduction in motor vehicle tax will apply to privately registered caravans and purpose-built camper trailers weighing up to 4.5 tonnes, and will deliver savings of up to $471.

CCIA President, Theo Whitmont said caravan and camping holidays are an important part of the tourism economy in NSW and are especially important in regional communities across the State. Over 4 million domestic trips were taken last year and over 16 million nights were spent caravan and camping.

“One of the major reasons we have pushed this issue for so long is that we want to make it as easy as possible for more people to become caravan and camper trailer owners and start living the dream,” Mr Whitmont said.
